prAna was acquired by Columbia Sportswear Company (CSC) in June, 2014 and is part of the family of brands in the CSC portfolio, including Columbia, Mountain Hardwear and Sorel. prAna is headquartered in Carlsbad, California and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Columbia Sportswear Company.
 
 
                                
Overview of the Position:


As a Costing Analyst, you will support cross functional teams (product development, design and merchandising counterparts) to ensure efficient target cost is achieved at a competitive total product costs. Assist in building and executing seasonal costing direction and expectation. Your focus will be on analyzing cost sheets against style details and providing feedback to product developers and giving options to vendors where needed to improve the overall cost. You will partner with the product creation teams to understand the brand direction and in-season business needs, and support the product development costing activities.


 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Independently guide and influence product creation teams to drive product decisions that enable optimal product value and target cost achievement
  • Proactively communicate costing analytics to assist product creation team to make product decisions that enable optimal product value and target cost achievement.
  • Participate with CSC on predictable, completive and sustainable product costs projects and initiatives.
  • Analyze and identify trends causing margin erosion to assist with corrective action to close gaps in margin
  • Analyze margin erosion when converting styles to a sustainable attribute (such as Fair Trade and/or Sustainable materials
  • Measure and analyze finished good vendors cost performance to ensure in season cost expectations are being met.
  • Assist and collaborate with broader costing, product development & CSC teams to develop and implement cost standards, tools and processes that enable efficient and accurate product cost.
  • Analyze macro & micro economic trends and global free trade agreements to support sourcing decisions.
  • Adhere to calendar deadlines for key costing-related activities
 
Key Interfaces:

Position has significant interaction with many areas within prAna and CSC Costing requiring strong communication and relationship-building skills. This position has deep working relationships with the following constituencies:

  • Brand Product Creation team
  • Brand Materials Development team
  • Brand Sourcing team
  • CSC Costing team
  • LO Production team

Minimum Job Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in apparel or other soft goods sourcing, development, merchandising, production, or a manufacturing environment. 
  • College degree in business, apparel, manufacturing, or related experience
  • Knowledge of garment manufacturing including costing, manufacturing process, machine types, sewing and operation efficiency.
  • Possess working knowledge and functional aspects of garments (materials is a plus). 
  • Foundational understanding of global trade agreements and trade regulations.
  • Ability to deal with work and time pressures to accomplish job requirements in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, high proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to work well with individuals of from different countries and cultures.
  • Requires an ability to read, write and speak English, within daily activities and ability to communicate with vendors and employees globally

Travel/Schedule Requirements:

International / domestic travel up to 20%

Physical Requirements:

Employee must be able to perform essential functions of position with or without reasonable accommodations. Environment is a typical office setting plus varying settings associated with domestic and international travel and meetings. Job typically involves continuous sitting, speaking face-to-face and by phone, and use of computer equipment. Must be physically able to lift or carry up to 10 lbs.
