This position will provide leadership in identifying and/or building highly available, scalable, resilient, and maintainable enterprise-wide monitoring tools and services that will provide valuable information and insight to our management, application, engineering and operations teams.  The incumbent will lead an enterprise monitoring team with the goal of providing a self-service model that can be used by other application teams and will allow them to be aware of the health of critical services in real-time and have the knowledge they need to anticipate future problems.  We embrace collaboration, continual improvement and learning.

  • Identify and/or build enterprise monitoring tools, services and processes
  • Partner with Global Operations and other Engineering teams to standardize the processes of monitoring/alerting and related analytics and insights
  • Build self-service templates for enterprise monitoring
  • Train and support other teams as they implement these self-service templates
  • Identify measures for service health and create the tooling for measurement
  • Identify escalation points for alerting when there is a problem and create the tooling for alerting
  • Deliver visibility to both real-time and historical service health information and metrics
  • Provide insightful projections and recommendations for application performance and stability
  • Partner with Global Operations and other Engineering teams to automate service self-healing capabilities for applications and their supporting network and infrastructure
  • Consolidate monitoring and alerting tools across Columbia to offer the most effective mix of capabilities and cost
  • Provide training, implementation and standards around how to monitor, heal and learn from metrics across the landscape
  • Create and deliver monitoring guidelines/requirements for applications teams to follow when evaluating and bringing in new services
  • Build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders, other Engineering groups (development, infrastructure, networking, storage, databases, applications, reporting) and Global Operation teams
  • Continuously improve; enhance repeatable process


  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, or a related field required, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in multiple engineering disciplines (development, automation, networking, storage, databases, applications)
  • Experience in enterprise monitoring 
  • Collaborative team leader with the ability to build high quality relationships and to inspire others to take ownership of self-service templates and services
  • Curious and self-motivated engineer that is always learning and growing
  • Experience working on an Agile Scrum team
  • Experience in developing with PowerShell, JavaScript, Go, etc..
